Time for a New Adventure

It’s been a cold, wet and gloomy start to 2025 in many, many ways.

My month in Ghana in October was an incredible experience. Working as a volunteer I had the opportunity to be completely immersed in the local culture, which was just amazing. Since then I’ve had time to recharge and reflect and the anticipation of exploring new places has reignited my wanderlust. I’m restless now, and already heading towards the halfway mark since reaching the big 7-0.

When I started this blog, I came up with the title “Before It’s Too Late” because in my head I was racing against time. Time is precious and fragile. It can be swept away from under our feet in an instant. But we’re all chasing time in one way or another, backwards or forwards, wanting what’s been lost, running from what’s to come, so I’ve been wondering about changing the title.

But in the end I’ve decided to keep “Before It’s Too Late” because actually it’s not just a countdown, it’s a celebration of seizing the day. Carpe Diem and all that, embracing the richness of life while I’m lucky enough to be able to do it and still have the energy (just!). Every stamp in my passport at 70 is a quiet rebellion against assumptions about age and capability- and anyone who knows me well will know I’ve always liked a bit of rebellion!

There’s still so much world out there waiting to be discovered, and on 10th February I’m heading off on my next adventure – a 5-week tour of Australia and New Zealand. I’m nervous about the length of the journey, but also very excited. It will be very different from Ghana, this time round I’ll be a tourist with a group of people who are also solo travellers.

This is my itinerary. The tour begins in Sydney, 3 weeks around Australia (apart from the very western bit), then across for 2 weeks in New Zealand.

I’m hoping to keep this blog updated while I’m away, as long as I can remember how to do it on my phone – I had my laptop in Ghana, but this time it’s staying at home! So for anyone who’s interested, or can be bothered, just hit the ‘update me’ button and it will email you when I add anything new (it doesn’t share your email address anywhere else, I promise). Or just dip in from time to time if you want to see what I’m up to. Or just don’t – that is also absolutely fine 🌏.

See you on the other side of the world!
