After a few delays (UK trains and French Air Traffic Control!) I arrived at Accra around 9pm on Friday. First night in the Ibis airport hotel and collected by GVI on Saturday morning. Roads out of Accra good for about 5 miles and then they morph into a collection of dust and rubble – not really sure which side of the road we were meant to be driving on, I think it’s fluid!
I’m completely in awe of the Ghanaians’ incredible skills at carrying things on their heads-apparently something they learn from the age of 1 while they’re learning to walk and keep their balance!

Here are a few photos of the GVI base, my ‘work’ home for the next 4 weeks

And the apartment where I’m staying, which is just a few minutes walk down the road

The last 2 days have been a bit ‘death by training’, but these amazing dancers/acrobats at a local bar were a welcome interlude last night!

Thunderstorms forecast but not materialised, so not yet blessing the rains down in Africa, but may hear the drums echoing tonight!
Internet painfully slow, but think i’ve got there with this first update – see you later 🌍
